Kintsugi

$110.00

Art workshops using Japanese art forms - Fundraising for MIS student Corey for his exchange trip to Japan!

Kintsugi
Has there ever been a better time to pick up the pieces and mend them back together?!
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken objects with lacquer and pure metallic golden powder. Because the "flaw" reveals its history, the resulting piece is considered more beautiful.
The philosophy behind this technique is to treat the repair as part of the object’s history as opposed to treating the repair as something to hide as if it never happened.
But pure gold can be a little pricey! In this workshop we'll be using different materials including gold leaf and epoxy glue for a DIY spin on this ancient technique!
We’ll practice on porcelain and ceramic pieces (You’ll be smashing pieces with a hammer!) and you will create a final piece to take home!
